New Awards - Awards Dinner to Benefit the Library
The Calvert Library Foundation announces a new award, to be presented annually for service and outstanding contributions to the Calvert Library. The first award will be given to Sen. Thomas V. “Mike” Miller, Jr., President of the Maryland State Senate and a consistent supporter of Calvert Library, at a festive awards dinner April 28th at the Solomons Island Yacht Club. Sen. Miller, a Calvert County resident, has served in the state legislature since 1971 and was instrumental in securing funding for Calvert Library Prince Frederick.
Donnie Radcliffe, a former Calvert Library Trustee and Foundation Director who served tirelessly in promoting the new library in Prince Frederick, will be honored posthumously at the dinner. Donnie was a Calvert County resident and a former news reporter for The Washington Post. She covered the White House and authored two books, Simply Barbara Bush, A Portrait of America’s Candid First Lady and Hillary Rodham Clinton, The Evolution of a First Lady. She died in 2010 after a lengthy illness.
Please join the Calvert Library Foundation in celebrating and bestowing its first award on Sen. Mike Miller and in honoring the memory of Donnie Radcliffe on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at the Solomons Island Yacht Club, Solomons, Md.
Dinner tickets are $100 each; all proceeds will be used to support the Calvert Library. For further information, contact Margaret Fahs, mpfahs@verizon.net.
Capital Campaign 2012
The Calvert Library
Foundation exists to provide funds for the Calvert Library that
government cannot. Its object is to provide funds that can make the
difference between being a good library and a great library. The
Capital Campaign of 2012 will raise $200,000 to benefit citizens of
the County and equip the new Southern Branch Library as a first class
facility. We are grateful that the County Commissioners have
committed to transitioning the Southern Branch from an inadequate
facility to a far better and larger building for ten years, pending
construction of a new building, and for funding the basic costs of
that transition. However, the simple fact is that the County’s
budget may not be adequate to accomplish the renovations and the
move, and to furnish and equip the library appropriately. That’s
where the Capital Campaign comes in – to raise $200,000. Our
object is to raise those funds by June 1st,
2012 and we need your help!
As the Campaign moves
forward, this website will provide detailed information about the
opportunities and progress of the campaign towards the goal. There
are many ways you can help. We invite you to sponsor specific rooms
in the Southern Branch Library, or the Main Library. Each
sponsorship will result in a prominent plaque being placed in that
room, in your honor or in honor of anyone specified by you. Other
donors will be recognized on a permanent display. In addition, there
are opportunities to be recognized in brass elements of a “Giving
Tree” or in bricks forming the patio of the Library. You can make
an “instant donation” right now, by clicking on the “Give Now”
icon of this website and using a credit or debit card, transferring
funds directly from your bank account, or even using a PayPal
account. If you would like a member of the Foundation to contact you
to discuss your donor plans, or to make arrangements for a particular
gift, please use the Foundation email address to contact us at
